Panasonic announces new mirrorless full frame camera with 6K: Lumix SH1

Panasonic will launch an addition to the Lumix S range this year, the new Panasonic Lumix SH1, which has already been presented as a prototype at the Cine Gear 2019. Highlight of the new mirrorless full-frame camera is the possibility to record in 6K.

According to Panasonic, the SH1 is the “world’s first camera capable of video recording at 6K/24p (3:2 aspect ratio), 5.9K/30p (16:9 aspect ratio), and 10-bit 60p 4K/C4K.”

Maximizing the use of the pixels in the full-frame image sensor, the LUMIX S1H, as a digital camera, will be able to capture 6K/24p (3:2 aspect ratio) or 5.9K/30p (16:9 aspect ratio). It is also the world’s first full-frame digital interchangeable lens system camera to enable 10-bit 60p 4K/C4K video recording. Besides that the SH1 will feature a variety of recording formats like 4:3 Anamorphic mode. The LUMIX S1H features V-Log/V-Gamut with a wide dynamic range of 14+ stops, which are virtually the same as those of the Panasonic Cinema VariCam, allowing it to precisely capture everything from dark to bright areas.

Software Update

Owners of the previous Lumix S1 will be able to benefit from improved video features even without the need to buy the new model. Reason for that is that from July on Panasonic will be offering the software upgrade DMW-SFU2, which is to expand the video capabilities of the Lumix S1. In addition, the S1 should be able to use 14+ f-stops in the V-log recording after the update. Owners of the Lumix S1 can get the upgrade for free until September 2019 due to an special introductory offer.
