If you had recently looked at DJI’s social channels, you had probably seen the company teasing the release of a new product, along with the line “unleash your other side”. With that DJI has announced an action camera, the so called Osmo Action.Osmo Action_1

What makes it so special?

The action camera comes with a 2.25 inch touchscreen with a 640 x 360 resolution. It can shoot 12 megapixel still and film in 4k at 60 fps. It is dustproof, shockproof when dropped up to 1.5 meters and freezeproof down to -10°C. The Osmo Action comes with two screens, one on either side of the camera: a 2.25-inch touchscreen on the back and a 1.4-inch display on the front. Because of the screen brightness levels measuring at 750 nits, both screens are sufficiently bright for use in direct sunlight. Featuring a watertight seal and a hydrophobic coating on the back touchscreen, Osmo Action is waterproof at depths of up to 11 meters.

The new Osmo Action is the first DJI handheld camera to feature the new image stabilization system called RockSteady. According to DJI, RockSteady combines EIS with complex algorithms, delivering stable, shake-free footage no matter how heavy the action gets.” The new Osmo Action is the first DJI handheld camera to feature the new image stabilization system called RockSteady. According to DJI, “RockSteady combines EIS with complex algorithms, delivering stable, shake-free footage no matter how heavy the action gets.” This provides the scene with three additional levels of dynamic range, natural transitions between light and dark areas, and detailed details that often get lost in complex lighting conditions. The Osmo Action features a replaceable battery with a running time of about 93 minutes while recording at 4K / 30fps with RockSteady enabled and about 135 minutes while recording at 1080p / 30fps without RockSteady. Users can use the voice control of the Osmo Action with two microphones and a loudspeaker should ensure a good playback quality.
